And qualified for the World Athletics Championships 2022 javelin throw final. The defending Olympic champion Neeraj, who was competing in Group A at Hayward Field, broke the qualifying mark with his first throw of 88.39 meters on Thursday but failed to do so again on his second and third tries.

Notably, the qualifying distance for the top 12 competitors in the men’s javelin throw events at Oregon 2022 was set at 83.50 meters. Neeraj set the standard in Group A with an 88.39-meter throw on his very first attempt. Chopra had achieved a national record of 89.94 meters on the way to a silver medal in the Stockholm Diamond League earlier this year. Neeraj Chopra was born into a Ror family in the city of Khandra Panipat in the Indian state of Haryana. His family has a strong agricultural background, and he has two sisters to look out for. He completed his primary education at Dayanand Anglo-Vedic College in Chandigarh. And as of the academic year 2021, he is enrolled in Lovely Professional University in Jalandhar, Punjab, to get a Bachelor of Arts degree. Chopra’s father registered him in a gym at Madlauda when neighborhood kids made fun of him for being overweight as a child; he then enrolled in a gym in Panipat. And a few more seasoned competitors who had worked with a javelin coach in Jalandhar. Soon after, he convinced his family to let him live in Panipat while honing his skills. After winning his first medal, a bronze at the district championships. He then started competing on state and international levels.
